Almost everything written about this subject is in the future tense. Next quarter, next year, once things settle down. The month sitting open on your desk is the one worth talking about, because it is the only one you can still change.
Owners arrive here with a quiet assumption that real help begins at some tidy boundary. Meanwhile the books are open, a decision is waiting, and a month that could have been closed slides past.
There is nothing careless about that. Every page they read was written the same way. But a month you can still finish is worth more than a plan for one you cannot see yet.
Strip the shopping words away and it is nearly always the same three things. Last month tied to the bank. A cash picture you can read without squinting. One decision made with somebody else in the room.
If today is early in the month, the close can still land on the tenth. If today is later, the leftovers get a written list and the promise moves to the next tenth, without anybody being told off about the calendar.
Either way the order is the same, and none of your totals appear on the strip below.
A month is the unit of work here, and the reason it closes properly is that one desk holds all of it. A Tax CFO is the controller and CFO seat for an owner-run business with the tax work inside it, so the books, the return and the plan come from one desk and the October number is decided before the year ends. Businesses don't hire a CPA. They hire a CFO.
Breadth is the close, the franchise report and the federal return sitting with the same person, so a category chosen this month still makes sense in April. Height is the read that happens in October, when the year can still be steered rather than described.
Work on an open month can include books closed to the bank, a return prepared from those books, and payday arranged on a provider you keep running. It cannot include an audit, a review, a compilation or an opinion on your statements, because no CPA credential is held at this desk and that work is reserved in Texas. If one of those is what somebody has asked you for, you will hear it in the first conversation rather than after a month has been promised. The longer list, examinations included, is on the disclosures page.

It is twenty minutes about the month you already have. You will leave knowing whether it can close on the tenth, what is missing if it cannot, and whether this is a desk you want at all. Nobody has to decide anything on the call.
Owners often end the first conversation on the same sentence. They came for a service, and what they wanted was a month with a date on it, closed, read, and carried into the return by the same people.
A Texas franchise report can be filed from Dallas, because the Comptroller takes the filing from wherever you already sit. This page does not invent an office in your town.
You will be talking to the Steven Palmieri practice.
